A LONG-SERVING hospital worker has been found not guilty of an alleged sexual assault while carrying out a routine procedure.

Former clinical support worker Paul Edwards, 31, of Naylor Road, Ellesmere Port, had worked at the Countess of Chester hospital for 14 years before being suspended after the allegation was made.

Under examination, he said: “He has misinterpreted the whole procedure. I wasn’t on morphine, I wasn’t drowsy and I wasn’t sleepy. He was.

“I don’t know why he has made the complaint. I’m a professional and I did my job. I have been with the trust for 14 years and I have never taken advantage of my position.”

Mr Edwards, who is divorced with two children, was arrested in May last year.

A 27-year-old man made the complaint after receiving treatment at the Countess of Chester hospital when a serious motorcycle crash left him with a broken leg and facial injuries.

The man, who cannot be name for legal reasons, was having a catheter changed by experienced support staff member Mr Edwards when it is alleged he was touched inappropriately.

The jury found Mr Edwards not guilty after an hour of deliberations at Chester Crown Court yesterday.
