One Ellesmere Port street boasts its very own ‘house of horrors’ at this most spooky time of year.

Giant spiders, ghastly ghouls and horrifying headstones have helped to transform Halloween-mad Karen Burgess’ Regent Street home into a trick or treater’s dream destination – and it’s all in the name of a very good cause.

Support worker Karen began decorating her home for the annual celebration of all things scary in 2000, and it’s become even more of a head-turner with each passing year.

Karen explained that it all started when she had to cut short her daughter’s trick or treating because of the cold weather, then the idea of putting on her own shuddersome show was born.

“When I got home, I had a couple of Halloween decorations and put them outside my door,” she said.

“When all the kids started to come round and knocked on the door, my daughter got so excited seeing them every year so we – and even my two Staffordshire Bull Terriers – helped out and we all got dressed up.

“It got bigger and bigger and better each year.”

The family invited donations for the Hospice of the Good Shepherd in 2014, as a way of saying thank you for the care Karen’s partner’s grandad received there, and for Help for Heroes last year.

But this year they are fundraising for an Ellesmere Port mum who is battling cancer.

“People should come to my house today as I’m raising money for a local mum so she can make ever-lasting memories for her daughter,” Karen added.
