An Ellesmere Port woman has had her hair chopped off to raise cash for charity.

Jenn Nickson was often complimented on her long thick hair, so she researched ways of donating it to a worthy cause.

She said: “I went on Cancer Research UK’s website and found information that led me to Little Princess Trust.

“They are a charity that sends donated hair to a wig maker and buys the wigs for children who have lost their hair through medical reasons. I decided then that this was the charity to which I wanted to donate my hair.”

Jenn also wanted to raise money for Cancer Research UK for personal reasons.

She added: “In recent years I have lost two of my uncles to different forms of cancer. My family have also lost a dear friend and know far too many people who battle against this disease. By raising money for this charity, hopefully we can bring an end to people dying needlessly from cancer.

“As seen in the media more people survive cancer now than die from it. This is due to the research that is done in order to combat the various types of this disease. It would be my dream that in my lifetime we could hear the words, everyone survives cancer.”

Hairdresser at the Retreat Hair Salon in Whitby, Sara Haynes, cut Jenn’s long hair after putting it into three plaits.

Jenn added: “I’ve already raised approximately £350.

“This isn’t counting the generous donations made in the collection tin that the salon kindly let me leave with them.”

“I would like to thank my friends and family who have helped support me and made generous donations. I am truly grateful for everyone’s help with this.”
