A rally is to be held in Ellesmere Port in support of Jeremy Corbyn’s campaign to continue as leader of the Labour Party.

The rally will take place at 7.30pm on Thursday, August 25 at Ellesmere Port Civic Hall. Doors open at 7pm.

The main speaker will be a member of the Shadow Cabinet, along with West Wirral MP Margaret Greenwood. Tony Kearns, deputy general secretary of the Communication Workers Union, and other trade unionists and Labour Party members will also speak.

Young Labour member Beth Redmond will speak about Jeremy Corbyn’s policies for youth.

There will be local union and campaign stalls for people to browse before the meeting and refreshments will be available. The event has been organised by local supporters of Momentum, a Labour Party group set up to support the current leader’s policies and campaigns.

“Some of Jeremy’s opponents claim that he is unelectable – a claim his supporters reject as having no basis in evidence,” said local Momentum spokesperson Lisa Rossetti.

“We hope that Labour supporters who have any doubts about Jeremy’s leadership will come to our rally and hear why people support him.”

Jeremy Corbin is facing a challenge to his leadership from Pontypridd MP Owen Smith, former shadow work and pensions secretary.

Seats at the rally can be booked (no charge) at http://momentumcheshirewest.org.uk.
