A green oasis close to Ellesmere Port is greener still thanks to volunteers who filled a stack of green rubbish bags.

The litter pick took place at the Rivacre Valley local nature reserve on Rivacre Road noted for its woodland and meadows.

Residents and four-legged friends assisted by Tim Lloyd, the Rivacre Valley ranger, met to carry out a litter pick of the area.

The group consisted of regular volunteers from the Friends of Rivacre Valley and members of the new Rivacre Valley appreciation group on Facebook.

Within an hour and a half the enthusiastic volunteers had collected sufficient litter to fill a stack of green bags.

Much of this was cleaned up from the Seymour Road side of the valley.

The borough council points out Rivacre Valley is a popular area with walkers and to ensure it stays that way it encourages all visitors to use one of the bins provided or their rubbish away with them.

People who would like to get involved in future clean-ups or who just enjoy the Rivacre Valley can follow the Facebook group for further information.
