Historic menswear retailer Greenwoods has gone into administration.

The suit shop chain dates backs to 1860 with 63 stores across the UK - including in the Port Arcades in Ellesmere Port.

It specialises in the sale and hire of menswear under the brands of Greenwoods and 1860 - and employs nearly 320 workers.

Adrian Berry and Clare Boardman from Deloitte have been appointed as joint administrators of Greenwoods Menswear Ltd.

Adrian Berry said: "We are currently assessing the options available to the company, including a potential sale of the business, and are continuing to trade it in the meantime.

"No redundancies are being announced at this stage and we are grateful to the employees for their support at this difficult time.

"This is a challenging time for the UK retail sector, which has affected the company."
