Six charities will benefit after a lady lost the locks she adores.

Last December, Emma Mayers, husband Ian and her sister Denise tackled Ian’s redundancy from WH Smith on Cheshire Oaks in Ellesmere Port by opening their dream art and craft shop.

Denise has a fine art university degree, Ian had spent 22 years in retail and Emma had passed her fine art college course.

Amy’s Craft Artcade opened its doors at 1 The Arcade, Regent Street named after Ian’s nan Amy Mayers, who had sadly passed away the previous September.

Emma explains: “Since we opened the shop we have done fundraising for a few different charities from fun days at the shop to Ian doing an abseil.

“I decided I would do a sponsored head shave donating all the money from that and a fun day at the shop to six different charities in memory of Ian’s nan.”

She also arranged for her hair to be donated to the Little Princess Trust which provides real hair wigs to boys and girls across the UK and Ireland who have sadly lost their own hair through cancer treatment.

The day included a cake sale, raffle, name the cuddly dog, glitter tattoos, a teddy tombola and craft workshops.

Emma chose Cancer Research UK Kids & Teens in memory of her nan and granddad Smith who loved children, the Hospice of the Good Shepherd in memory of her Aunty Lynne, Ian’s nan and grandad Amy and George Mayers and Make a Wish, which Emma says touched her heart and had her in tears when she saw the happiness they bring to children’s lives.

She also chose the Salvation Army in memory of her Uncle Alec, the British Heart Foundation in memory of her friend’s amazing mum Pauline and Alder Hey in support of Erin Cross of Chester, ‘a very brave and lovely little girl’ who relapsed after having treatment for lymphoblastic leukaemia and was cared for at Alder Hey until she went to Seattle children’s hospital to receive life-saving care.

Emma added: “Anybody who knows me will know I love my hair but this year I’ve seen so many people affected by cancer and heart disease that I decided to raise money for these great charities.”

After the event she said: “All went great, little Harvey Hughes-Sharp came and cut my ponytails off and people said if my husband shaved his right off too they would give him some sponsor money too so he did.”

Emma is fast approaching her target of £1,200 with £1,019.74 raised, hoping to give each charity £200.
