A former youth football coach from Ellesmere Port has appeared in court charged with allegations of non-recent sexual abuse.

Paul McCann, of Hemingford Close in Great Sutton, appeared at South Cheshire Magistrates Court in Crewe on Wednesday (January 3) for a brief hearing in relation to the charges, which are alleged to have been carried out in the late 1980s against one alleged victim.

Former Crewe Alexandra youth football coach McCann, 57, who spoke only to confirm his details, was charged with two counts of indecent assault on a boy under 16, and four counts of indecent assault against a man aged 16 or over.

No formal pleas were taken at this hearing.

McCann’s case was sent to Chester Crown Court where he will next appear on January 31. He was bailed until the next hearing.
