Asda in Ellesmere Port was forced to close due to a 'computer system error' this morning (June 20).

But a spokeswoman for the supermarket giant said they hope to be able to reopen the store by 5pm today.

She explained: "It is an issue with our checkouts - nothing going through our checkouts will scan so we're unable to take payments.

"Our IT department is looking into it and we should hopefully be open by 5pm."

She added that there may be a 'knock-on effect' on home shopping.

The pharmacy remains open for NHS prescriptions, however, as well as the store's in-branch Post Office.
