UKIP candidate Henry Crocker revealed that leader Nigel Farrage who was injured in a plane crash earlier today had sent out a message of support to all UKIP parliamentary candidates.

He said: "Nigel has sent out a message to us he said stop worrying about me I'm alright now go to it keep going folks!"

Henry added: "If I get 5% of the vote I will be very happy This is my third election in Ellesmere Port and Neston and I am looking for the number of votes to go up."

Henry Croker gained 1,206 votes in 2005 and is hoping to increase that markedly.

Meanwhile, Independent candidate Jonathan Starkey has arrived witha veritable feast including Cosco sandwiches and cartons of water and J2O. He is calling it camp Independent.

A very relaxed Mr Starkey said: "I am very pleased with the way the campaign has gone. I have been told by a lot of people that they want change. It has been a really enjoyable experience I believe I am Ellesmere Port and Neston's first Independent and people have been thanking me for providing an alternative.

He added: "Another thing after the hung parliament and there will be one there will be another election in six months time and if that is the case then count me in."

Incoming Mayor of Ellesmere Port and Neston and CWAC Conservative Councillor Gareth Anderson is predicting a close fight between Andrew Miller and Stuart Penketh.

When asked if he would like to contest the seat in the future he said: "Hopefully Stuart will be elected so the need will not arise."
