A high turnout for all elections in Weaver Vale has led to a significant delay in starting the count.

Legally, counting is meant to start at 2am unless there are exceptional circumstances.

Cheshire West and Chester Council chief executive and acting returning officer Steve Robinson made the call to delay the count which now will not start until after 2am.

The exceptional circumstances quoted are the high turnouts in parliamentary, borough and parish council elections across Weaver Vale.

The last estimated time of declaration for the parliamentary result at the Memorial Court in Northwich was 4.30am. News of the turnout is expected shortly and early indications are it will be in the region of 70%.
