Eddisbury was the first parliamentary seat in Cheshire West and Chester to declare its results when the Conservatives held what was considered a safe seat for the party.

Previous MP Stephen O’Brien stepped down at this election and has been replaced by North Wales AM Antoinette Sandbach who won the Cheshire seat with 24,167 votes.

Despite a considerable 13,255 majority at the 2010 election, it was 5.20am before the result was finally declared. In the end, the majority was still substantial albeit slightly reduced at 12,974.

Labour candidate James Laing made small inroads into the Tory stronghold but the only other distinguishing feature about the result was that UKIP candidate Rob Millington beat Liberal Democrat Ian Priestner to third place.

The ful result was:

Antoinette Sandbach (Con) 24,167

James Stewart Laing (Lab) 11,193

Rob Millington (UKIP) 5,778

Ian Douglas Priestner (LibDem) 4,289

Andrew John Garman (Green) 1,624

George Antar (CISTA) 301
