AN ELDERLY man was punched in the face and body after a thief broke into his house and stole his wallet.

The 80-year-old man and his wife were at home in Hillside Road, Blacon, Chester, at about 8.20pm on Thursday, January 22, when the intruder smashed a window and attacked him, stealing cash and bank cards.

Police spokesperson Shelly Williams said: “As a result of the assault, the victim sustained cuts and swelling to his face and bruising to his right arm. He was taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital for treatment where he spent the night.”

Detective Constable Steve Bellis, who is investigating the incident, said: “This was a vicious attack on an elderly member of the community who was subjected to an assault in his own home.

“We are appealing for anyone with any information in relation to the identity of this man, or who witnessed anything that may assist our enquiries to come forward.”
