FIREFIGHTERS had to rescue eight people after the monorail at Chester Zoo broke down.

Crews were called to the zoo at 11.05am yesterday and with the assistance of Ellesmere Port firefighters used seven metre extension ladders to bring the five adults and three children to safety.

Watch manager Chris Rodaway said: "I have to praise the effectiveness of the zoo staff and the people for being so calm. Once we brought them down they carried on enjoying their visit."
