THEY were miles from the sea but youngsters in a village school were as fierce a band of pirates as ever set sail.

Reception class children at Eccleston Church of England Aided Primary were certainly up for it as they dressed as pirates ready for a grand pirate party.

With their skull and crossbones hats and patches, muskets and swords it was a pirates life for them as part of a “Bringing Literacy to Life” project based on the children’s picture book “Yo Ho Ho A- Pirating We Go”.

The story takes youngsters sailing off in search of treasure and adventure before coming safely home for tea.

The Eccleston pupils made sure they enjoyed their party.
