The Earth Skills Project (TESP) has been working with Cheshire Development Education Centre and Bee Creative Designs to improve Cherry Grove Primary School playground in Boughton.

The remit fitted TESP’s ethos well, using either natural or recycled materials where possible and by using the natural environment as a stimulating way to educate children.

Children, parents and teachers painted and stacked reclaimed tyres, renovated begged and donated planters, shifted compost and fitted hazel fence panels.

The TESP trainers were on hand to offer advice and install a planting area they designed and built.

Here, pupils will be able to get mucky and do some gardening, potentially planting some veg they can watch grow then enjoy cooking and eating.

TESP also made and installed bird and bug boxes to encourage wildlife back to the area.

The children will now be able to use this area to learn about the processes from seed to plate and understand the important role that insects play in that process.
