A chemical manufacturing company based in Dutton has become a proud product sponsor of the Bloodhound project, which aims to break the world land speed record by building a car that can drive at 1,000mph.

ReAgent, founded by Frodsham couple Derek and Norma Millard in 1977, will supply chemicals to the project on an ongoing basis in support of the attempt.

The idea for the innovative project was born in 2007 as a way of inspiring a new generation of scientists, technologists, engineers and mathematicians.

The sponsorship came after the Bloodhound team contacted ReAgent requesting to buy chemicals.

The enterprise intrigued staff at ReAgent, who offered to become more involved.

ReAgent’s managing director Richard Hudson said: “ReAgent is honoured to be a product sponsor of Bloodhound SSC.

“As this is such a ground-breaking project that aims to break the scientific barriers we believe are there, we hope it will inspire new engineers and scientists, which is exactly what the UK needs.”

Although the car – the Bloodhound SSC – will be manufactured in the UK, the attempt to break the record will be in South Africa in 2016, on dry lake beds or salt flats.

A slower run of 800mph will be attempted next year.
