A DEFUNCT disco and youth club has donated more than £2,000 toward the proposed rebuild of a community sports club.
Former village policeman Peter Wakely and ex-treasurer of Frodsham Youth Club Emily Partington had £2,664.54 lying dormant in a Halifax account.
The pair attended Helsby parish council on Monday to present the cheque to the new community sports club fund, hoping it can be successful.
Peter Wakely said: “These discos never set out to make money particularly but seemed to attract it like moths to a flame and we finished up with a sum of money.
“While discussing the community and the redevelopment of Helsby social club, we remembered this money was languishing in the Halifax so we closed the account and got a cheque.
“I would like to thank Fred Butler and Heather Kennedy for all their hard work.”
Parish council chairman Stuart Hulse added: “The council and I will make sure that the money is spent on the youth club.
“I would like to thank you both for giving this wonderful gift.”
