The Duke of Westminster has opened a new school in Chester.

His Grace was at The King’s School on Wrexham Road on Tuesday to officially open the £2.9m infant school.

The addition of Willow Lodge means that the independent school now caters for ages four-18.

The Duke explained his long association with the school, as patron, to an audience of invited guests, parents, staff, pupils and governors. He explained that he also kept a keen eye on its results and development and often watched King’s rowers as they passed under the bridge on the Eaton Estate.

After officially cutting the ribbon and declaring the school open with the help of 80 new infants who started the academic year a few days ago, he went on to plant a willow tree in the grounds.

The Duke then met staff and pupils and toured the new classrooms.

Headmaster Chris Ramsey said: “We were delighted when His Grace agreed to open Willow Lodge and it was gratifying to see so many parents and friends of King’s here.”
