FIRE crews attended a grass fire at The Meadows in Chester last Friday.

A Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesman said: “The fire spread quite quickly due to the dry weather, covering a large area.

“Firefighters spent four to five hours tackling the blaze between about 4 and 8.30pm.

“It was quite a strange feeling standing up to our knees in marsh water fighting a fire.”

A nearby resident in Beeston View, who took photos of the blaze, said: “It started in the afternoon and lasted into early evening. Three fire appliances attended.”
