A 35-year-old lorry driver has been taken to hospital with minor injuries after his HGV overturned on the M56.

The blue vehicle, which was carrying wood, overturned on the slip road at junction 12 travelling towards Chester.

As a result of the incident one lane of the westbound slip road onto the M56 westbound is currently closed.

Although travel site Inrix said traffic is coping well in spite of the accident, there has already been congestion on the motorway this morning due to a minor vehicle fire between junctions 14 at Hapsford and 12 at Runcorn.

And two vehicles have been involved in an incident on the A557 Rocksavage Expressway southbound between A5126 Weston Link and junction 12 (Runcorn).

This is affecting traffic heading away from the Runcorn Widnes Bridge towards the M56. Separate from the overturned lorry on the M56 J12 entry slip road.

Neither are related to yesterday's incident in which a gas tanker fire meant the M56 had to be closed in both directions for hours, leaving thousands of drivers stranded.

Although there were no injuries, a 1500m cordon had to be set up for nearby motorists.

There were no reported injuries in the incident, which also affected train services and air traffic around the area.
