A 19-year-old driver was arrested after a ‘hit and run’ incident near The Live Rooms in Chester.

He sped off after hitting a 21-year-old man, who suffered ‘serious injuries’ and had to be taken to hospital.

The incident happened on Station Road outside the venue at about 3.30am on Sunday (August 21).

A witness said the driver and the victim had got into an argument once a group of friends had walked across the street, causing him to brake sharply.

The 19-year-old man, who is from Upton, was arrested the same night on suspicion of assault, dangerous driving and failing to stop following a crash.

He has since been bailed ‘pending further enquiries’.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said: “Officers attended the scene and found that a 21-year-old man had been involved in a collision with a car on Station Road.

“Following the collision the driver of the car involved failed to stop and left the scene. The pedestrian suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Royal Liverpool Hospital.”
