GRIEVING mother Julie Garwell issued a statement asking for privacy after the two teenagers who were found guilty of her son’s manslaughter were sentenced.

Christopher Garwell, 23, from Connah’s Quay, died just days after sustaining a serious head injury following a fight with a group of men on the City Walls in Chester on June 3, 2010.

A jury found Kieran Cunnah, 18, and a Jordan Andrews, 17, guilty of his manslaughter on December 16.

The court heard how Garwell and a friend from North Wales had spent the day drinking in and around Chester city centre and became acquainted with the four defendants in the case.

A fight broke out in the Charlotte Court area of Chester later that day, which continued later that evening on the City Walls.

Shortly before 7.30pm that night, a member of the public found Christopher slumped and unconscious near to King George Tower.

He never regained consciousness and died six days later.

Part way through the trial two of the accused, a 17-year-old boy and a 20-year-old man, were found to have no case to answer.

The 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, subsequently pleaded guilty to affray and received a 12-month referral order.

Christopher’s mother Julie said: “Whatever sentence was given would never be enough to justify the unlawful killing of Chris.

“However, by this sentence and his comments the judge has made it clear how unacceptable this type of behaviour is in society.

“Our family would like to move on now and mourn the loss of Chris.”
