A WOMAN admitted causing the death of her own mother by drink driving after a family celebration.
Appearing at Chester Crown Court on Friday, Janet Elizabeth Newbold, 45, wept as she pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving while being above the legal limit.
Newbold, who now lives and works in Switzerland, spoke only to confirm her guilty plea and will now return to Chester on May 10 for sentencing while a psychology and probation report is completed.
The court heard last week how Newbold had been driving along the A56 Warrington Road, at Mickle Trafford, on September 12, 2009, when her car was involved in a head-on crash with another vehicle.
Her mum Barbara Prince, a rear-seat passenger, died as a result of her injuries.
It is understood that Newbold had been drinking at The Barn bar and restaurant, on Chester Road, while attending a birthday party.
When Newbold was breathalysed by police at the roadside, her breath measured 44 micrograms of alcohol in 100ml of her breath – the legal limit is 35mg.
Newbold, who had to be helped from the courtroom, was released on conditional bail.
