DOUBLE Olympic champion Rebecca Romero has started fundraising for a Chester school’s annual charity bike ride.

Girls from The Queen’s School, along with a number of teachers, will be cycling the length of Offa’s Dyke in the first week of the summer holidays.

The sponsored 200-mile bike ride, called Offa’s Bike, takes them from Prestatyn to Chepstow – the length of the England/Wales border.

The event will raise money for the school’s bursary fund, which helps girls attend the school whatever their family’s financial situation.

Olympic athlete and Chester resident Rebecca, one of only two women in the world to win Olympic medals in two different disciplines, kicked off the fundraising by signing one of her cycling helmets to be raffled off.

She also came to talk to girls at the school about how she became an athlete and what qualities are needed to make it in sport.

Last year, girls raised about £10,000 cycling from the school to Buckingham Palace as part of the Queen’s to Queen’s bike ride.
