A dog was rescued from the Shropshire Union Canal in Blacon this morning after getting itself in a tangle.

Cheshire Police say the border collie had gone for a swim when it got caught up in brambles on the 'wrong side' of the canal.

Boaters on a passing narrowboat managed to rescue the canine ably assisted by police officers.

Cheshire Police spokeswoman Rachel Hayes said: "The owners have taken it to the vets to be checked over however the dog, a border collie, appears to be okay, thankfully."
