A POLICE doctor has appeared in court today (Monday, August 30) accused of hurling an axe at a woman in Duddon, near Chester.

John Stephen Hood, 56, of Quarry Lane in Kelsall, is charged with an attempted section 18, possession of an offensive weapon and criminal damage.

He is alleged to have entered a property in Willington Road at 11.45pm on Saturday carrying an axe and a petrol cannister.

A 47-year-old woman fled the property at which point Hood is accused of throwing the axe at her. She suffered minor injuries to her back, but did not require hospital treatment.

Hood was refused bail and will appear at Chester Crown Court on September 27.
