LOSTOCK Youth Centre has been given £500 by Weaver Vale Housing Trust to host a monthly disco to get kids off the streets.

It will pay for the music night - which has been successfully trialled - and other events like trips out.

Leader Kathy Venables said: 'We are working with youths to assess what activities they would like in the area to try and help steer them away from anti-social behaviour.

'We want to give them some alternatives to hanging around outside the off-licence in Rudheath.'

Two discos have already been held and the trust's Helen Grant said: 'It's fantastic that the discos have had a positive effect on dealing with anti-social behaviour in the area.'

Rudheath PC Leanne Huddart said: 'The discos are only possible thanks to donations of time, money and effort by a variety of agencies.

'The fact there is so much support shows everyone is committed to making life better for young people. This is a really encouraging sign.'
