A DISABLED games extravaganza drew in people from the district to take part in an annual event held in Chester.

The games, now in their sixth year, were held at Bank of America’s leisure facilities and involved competitors aged eight to 80.

Event organiser David Towers said: ‘The main reason for organising a district event is that although there are games for more dedicated athletes with disabilities, there is little or nothing held for the general disabled community.

‘And who knows – we may encourage paralympic competitors of the future.’

Rotarians organised archery, boccia, carpet bowls, cricket, darts, new age kurling, table tennis and tennis on the day.

In addition, volunteers from the Bank of America, the ‘Life’ Wellbeing Centre, and Chester University organised extra activities such as volleyball, softball and target golf.

To manage the event, there were rotary volunteers for every competitor.

Everyone went home with a medal and a goody bag.

Mr Towers added: ‘Witnessing the enthusiasm and delight by the individuals makes the whole project worthwhile.’
