COLOURFUL scenes of Frodsham will brighten up the semi-derelict buildings at the town’s busy rail station.

Members of the Frodsham’s Will to Work Workshop have come up with the idea of covering the 20 or so boarded-up windows with original artwork, and they have drafted in pupils of Helsby High School, Frodsham’s four primary schools and 4th Frodsham Brownies to help produce the paintings.

Workshop founder Geoff Prince said: “We just thought it would cheer the place up, it looks so bare and rundown. We’ve been working on the project for for the past few weeks.

“Robert Gleave and Sons has kindly donated the plywood panels, which workshop members have prepared for painting, and we will install them as soon as they are all finished.”

The historic Grade II listed station house has stood empty for years.

Spacia, the property arm of Network Rail, owns the building on the Manchester-bound platform, but has so far failed to attract a developer to restore and bring it back to life.

The North Cheshire Rail Users Group, which created and tend the station’s award-winning gardens, has welcomed the initiative.

“Regrettably, there seems to be no fresh active moves to return the semi- derelict station house to commercial use, in spite of its central location in the town, but Geoff’s project will at least help to brighten it up,” said group chairman Janet Briggs.
