REVELLERS made the most of the holiday weekend as Tilston Wakes drew record crowds.

Visitors and villagers enjoyed a rock concert, a bed push, decorated floats, a donkey derby and of course the traditional spectacle of the carving of the ox.

Winnie Egan, wife of the late Alan Egan, former Wakes president who died recently, was chosen as Lord Mayor on Saturday.

Miss Wakes was Jessica Ralphs, and her attendant was Deanne Fairbrother.

Tilstonbury was held on Saturday night - a rock concert involving four local bands, which drew a good crowd to enjoy a summer's evening of entertainment.

The hotly contested floats competition was won by Jim Blake with his miniature gipsy caravan.

Sunday started with the Tilston bed push around the lanes between Tilston and Farndon, calling in at every pub, which was won by Malpas Young Farmers.

A donkey derby on Sunday afternoon was hugely popular and the day concluded with a barbecue.

Though Bank Holiday Monday started cloudy, things soon brightened up.

Steve Morgan of Carden Hall carved the first slice of the ox roast, auctioned to Trevor Davies for £150.

A record crowd turned out to enjoy the entertainment, the highlight of which was the tug o' war won by Clwyd Young Farmers.
