Lanes had to be closed on the M56 this morning after a truck driver suddenly became ill at the wheel.

It meant motorists faced delays and congestion when emergency services had to close three lanes between junctions 14 and 15 at Hapsford at around 11.30am this morning (Monday April 27).

Police say the 51-year-old driver's truck careered across three lanes after he suddenly became ill. Police and air ambulance attended the scene to give the man treatment and he was taken to hospital shortly afterwards.

No other cars were involved. Traffic was affected for up to half a mile but all three lanes are now open.
