TRAINS travelling between Runcorn and Liverpool had to be halted for nearly two hours after a lorry driver underestimated the height of his vehicle on Monday afternoon.

The blue Volvo estate lorry became wedged under the railway bridge on Picow Farm Road at

3.30pm after failing to take heed of notices warning HGV drivers of a low bridge ahead.

The road was shut off to cars while the vehicle was removed, and trains were unable to cross above while the bridge was checked for structural damage.
