Drivers on the M56 are being warned to expect delays for the latest round of Mersey Gateway Project road closures.
Junction 12 will be affected on four weekends in a row through April as part of work to improve links on the A557 Weston Point Expressway.
Some diversions will see motorists sent to either junction 11 or 14 in order to come back the other way.
Drivers have been urged to allow extra journey time and to check travel conditions before setting off.
Merseylink general manager Hugh O’Connor said: “I would like to highlight that there is good news, the major work in this area will be completed in June.
“However, we do need some closures and traffic management changes in the area to enable this target to be achieved.
“In the meantime I’d like to ask drivers to continue to exercise patience and allow a bit of extra time or think about alternative routes if they plan to travel around or near junction 12 of the M56 at the weekend during April.”
Merseylink consortium contractors are also using the closures to resurface the roundabout, with the work expected to be finished by June.
All closures begin on the Friday at 7.30pm and reopen at 5am the next Monday.
‘Phase one’ will restrict access between the Clifton roundabout and junction 12 roundabout starting April 8.
Diversions will send traffic down to junction 14 and back up or via the A533,
The following weekend two sections of the M56 junction 12 roundabout will be closed.
During ‘phase three’, the eastbound slip road at J12 will be shut from April 22-25, meaning drivers will have to head through to J11 and turn around or come off at Hapsford and go through Frodsham and Helsby.
On the final week of closures the western section of the junction 12 roundabout is set to be closed causing minor diversions.
Highways England project manager Dave Dickinson said: “Although Mersey Gateway is on the local road network, its role in connecting the M62 and M56 is important and remodelling the roundabout at Weston Point Expressway is an important phase of the project.
“We appreciate people used to joining and leaving the eastbound M56 at junction 12 will be inconvenienced over the next month or so, but good motorway diversions are in place and drivers should allow a little bit of extra time to use them.”
