PEOPLE in Cheshire are being encouraged to look towards their local forest as an environment to work off the festive excesses.

Many people will have made personal resolutions to get fit and healthy this January, and the Forestry Commission would like to remind people that there are many fun ways to burn off the mince pies in the forest.

Delamere Forest has a wide network of footpaths where families can explore the trees and wildlife within the fresh air and tranquillity of the forest.

Delamere Forest’s smooth trails and small rolling hills are also a perfect for easy bike rides. There are two way-marked paths to help guide cyclists through the trees.

A haven for wildlife, such as white faced darter dragonfly, tortoiseshell butterfly and green woodpecker – Delamere Forest provides an ideal environment to explore.

One great way to enjoy Delamere throughout the year is by getting a Discovery Pass. For only £30 this entitles you to free parking within the forest, £3 off children’s bike hire when hiring an adult bike (excludes summer school break) and 10% off the Peckforton Castle 1851 Restaurant.

Passes can be purchased from www.forestry.gov.uk/pass or from the visitor centre at Delamere. For details visit www.forestry.gov.uk/northwestengland.
