POLICE have told care home bosses they will be taking no further action after a six-week probe into the death of an 89-year-old woman.

Police attended Sandiway Lodge following an inconclusive postmortem on the pensioner who died at Leighton Hospital.

It is understood the pensioner was admitted to hospital on December 29 in what the nursing home classed as a 'routine emergency admittance' but died less than 24 hours later.

Police were alerted by the hospital under council guidelines and care home manageress Julia Adamson said staff were relieved the investigation was over.

Home owner Graham Parr said: 'It was hanging over us but the main damage has already been done.

'The ramifications of this could be disastrous.

'The police were here for four days. It was stressful and has destroyed the work we have done to build up a reputation.'
