A 21-YEAR-OLD man swallowed about 40 bags of class A drugs when he was arrested in Winsford on Friday.

Paul Radcliffe, from Liverpool, appeared at Northwich Magistrates yesterday after being charged with three drug offences, possession of diamorphine with intent to supply, possession of crack cocaine with intent to supply and intent to supply diamorphine around the Winsford area.

Northwich Magistrates were told by prosecutor Cathleen Whincup that Radcliffe was arrested on Friday in Winsford after being watched by plain-clothed police officers who saw what they believed to be a drugs supply taking place.

When he was approached, the defendant swallowed what is believed to be heroin and crack cocaine and more bags containing a white substance were also recovered from near where he was sitting.

Miss Whincup said that once at the police station he fully admitted to possession and intent to supply and said he had swallowed 10 to 12 bags, telling police he had been selling them for the past few weeks to get some money for Christmas. He was found with £570 in cash on him, £550 of which he said were the proceeds of drug sales.

Radcliffe was then taken to Manchester Airport where 39 small bags were recovered after passing through his system. Miss Whincup said there may be some more left inside Radcliffe and that police were monitoring the situation.

Chris Johnstone, defending, said Radcliffe had been open and honest, which was 'most unusual' for someone in his situation.

Radcliffe was remanded in custody until Tuesday on the grounds he might fail to surrender any more drugs and the possibility he will commit further offences.
