DETECTIVES in Widnes are hunting an armed robber who made off with cash from a Widnes bank in broad daylight.

At 10.50am on Monday, November 24, a man walked into Barclays Bank on Victoria Road.

He approached the till carrying a blue bag and showed it to the cashier, making out there was a weapon in it.

He threatened the cashier and made demands for cash, which were complied with.

The offender placed the cash in his jacket pockets before leaving the bank and escaping on foot. The staff were said to be badly shaken, although none was physically hurt.

The offender is described as white, slim, about 20 and between 6ft and 6ft 2ins. He wore a light-coloured hooded top with the hood pulled up, black tracksuit bottoms and white trainers. The bag he was holding was said to look like a money bag.

A police spokesman said: 'We are appealing for anybody who may have seen a man of this description in the area of Victoria Road prior to the of-fence or following it as the man made his escape.
