The owner of the Boot Inn in Willington has raised £1,000 for Tarporley War Memorial Hospital by auctioning just one item signed by a Very Important Person.

Mike Gollings, who has been at the pub for more than 20 years, raised the cash by auctioning a bottle of Haig whisky signed by David Beckham.

The money was raised in memory of Mike’s late wife Caroline who was cared for at the hospital at the end of her battle with ovarian cancer.

Mike said: “I am thrilled that the signed bottle has raised so much money for Tarporley Cottage Hospital which provided exceptional care for Caroline during her battle with cancer.

“The bottle of whisky was kindly given to me by our close friend Traci Maddock, whose grandmother was cared for at the hospital and who works for David Beckham in London.”

Hospital manager Tony Gorman said: “We are very grateful for Mike’s excellent fundraising and that he has set up a tribute fund in memory of Caroline. Every year we have to raise over £700,000 to keep this local hospital community open and we rely on generous donations such as these.”
