A SCHOOL choir will soon be tickling the ivories after winning a Cheshire-wide competition.

The young singers from Woodfall Primary School Junior Choir in Little Neston won the inaugural choir competition run by The Neuromuscular Centre (NMC) in Winsford. The competition was sponsored by Dawsons Music, who presented the school with a digital piano, and Chester’s Dee 106.3 FM.

Teacher Lucy Clement said: “We were delighted and surprised to win. The competition was county-wide and we knew we would be up against some stiff competition.”

The choir will also perform at the charity’s Spirit of Christmas event at Chester Cathedral on November 28, hosted by TV star Matthew Kelly.

“The children are very excited,” said Lucy. “The children will get to meet the celebrities who have been invited. They feel like recording stars!”

The school is working towards a Sing Up award and Lucy confirmed that the prize of a digital piano will go a long way to supporting them in their bid.

Second in the competition was Abbeygate School, Chester, third Overleigh St Mary’s CE Primary School in Handbridge and fourth Upton Heath Primary School.
