A KELSALL cyclist suffered serious head injuries after he was thrown off his bike when it collided with a walker on New Years Day.

At around 3.25am on Sunday (January 1) emergency services were called to Utkinton Road near Ridge Hill, Utkinton after reports of a collision.

A 43-year-old cyclist from Kelsall had been riding along the road when he collided with a pedestrian causing him to be thrown off the bike, striking his head.

The cyclist was taken to North Staffordshire Hospital where he is still being treated for serious head injuries.

The pedestrian, who is a 48-year-old man from Utkinton, sustained a serious leg injury and was taken to Leighton Hospital for treatment.

Cheshire police are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to contact Western Roads Policing Unit on 101 quoting incident 500 of January 1 2012.
