TOP secret files released last week reveal a UFO sighting was reported to the Ministry of Defence from a village near Chester.

Reports, made available for the first time by the National Archives, include the drawing of dark triangular-shaped craft spotted over Cuddington.

The incident relates to the alleged incident which happened at about 1pm on January 11, 1998.

It is among hundreds of sightings revealed in files released by the MoD and National Archives. They include more than 5,000 pages of UFO reports, letters and drawings between 1995 and 2003.

The MoD sent a letter back to the village’s eyewitness confirming there had been “no other reports of UFO sightings”. The authority added: “We are satisfied there is no corroborating evidence to suggest the UK airspace was breached by unauthorised military aircraft.”

Another UFO sighting was reported by Cuddington residents, known only as ‘Jan and Tony’, as recently as March this year.

It reads: “We were out walking the dog when we saw two large orange lights in the sky, moving more or less in parallel. They were travelling roughly south east to north west. Lower than aircraft, they were moving pretty fast. Definitely not aeroplane or Chinese lanterns.”

The National Archive files also feature a letter from the MoD to then Tatton MP Martin Bell, who had contacted them on behalf of a constituent who claimed to see a UFO hovering over nearby Hartford, on July 9, 2000.

The letter said the department believed there were “rational explanations” and they would not divert resources to every report, unless there was evidence of a “potential threat” to Britain.
