A VILLAGE pub was among the targets in a crime wave that has rocked the Chester area.

Manager Duncan Falconer was woken by a man brandishing a crowbar during an attempted burglary at The Goshawk Pub in Mouldsworth.

But the incident was only one among many which kept police busy.

Other serious incidents include:

* City centre patrols were stepped up after a woman was attacked in her own bed when an intruder broke into her flat.

* Police believe a different attacker was responsible for a sexual assault on a woman walking near the Mill Hotel a few hours earlier.

* A robbery at Chester station in which a Blacon mother working at the Trekkers cafe was tied up, doused in lighter fuel and threatened she would be set alight.

* An arson attack at a nursing home.

*A serious assault at The Cross when a man suffered cuts to his neck.

An 18-year-old man was arrested and granted police bail following the incident at The Cross but arrests have yet to be made in relation to the other offences.
