Firefighters were alerted to a fire behind a Chester city centre store, just before midnight on Sunday (January 18).

Crews were called to Marks & Spencer's on Foregate Street at 11.53pm and discovered a pallet and other items alight. They had to gain access to the store after being concerned the fire had spread into the shop, but on full inspection they found there was no flames but some light smoke logging to two floors.

Crews were on the scene for more than two hours and used a hose reel jet and thermal imaging camera at the scene.
