FASHION firm Viyella is the latest company to go into administration due to the economic climate.

The British clothing company – founded in 1784 – has more than 100 stores throughout the county including a shop on Eastgate Street, Chester, which could now face closure.

A company statement said: “Following an assessment of the current economic situation and the prospects for the future, the directors have reluctantly decided that they have no alternative but to place the business into administration.”

Although the womenswear business wear brand has gone into administration its directors believe there will be a strong interest in it and they hope administrators will be able to sell the business quickly to save jobs.

Staff at the Chester store said they “had not been told anything” and that they were “just carrying on as normal”.

In summer TV presenter Anne Diamond who was the face of the clothes company visited the Eastgate Street store for a fashion show.
