A SCHEME to weed out rogue car dealers and cowboy mechanics is to be introduced in Halton.
Following pleas from car dealers, the borough council is to introduce a list of Trading Standards approved motor traders similar to one already available to car owners in Warrington.
In 2002 a council bid to introduce its own Trusted Trader Scheme was scuppered when it was not supported by the trade.
But now Halton has reached an agreement with Warrington to allow Runcorn and Widnes businesses to join the scheme which will be managed by Warrington's trading standards staff.
A council spokesman said: 'The extension of the Warrington scheme will allow Halton traders to benefit without the associated costs to Halton of operating such a scheme itself.'
