EXCLUSIVE holiday cottages in Helsby are celebrating two successful years in the village this month.

Helsby’s first five-star accommodation, The Courtyard, Lower Rake Lane, which opened in June 2007, has gone from strength to strength, winning a host of awards and plaudits.

Owner Roger Maher said: “We were told there was a demand in the area and we were advised to push as up market as possible.

“We have kept adding properties and the business has kept growing.

“In nine months we had bought three more properties to meet the demand and by February 2008 we achieved the first five-star accredited property in Vale Royal. It was a huge risk.”

With its own website and a social networking blog on Twitter, The Courtyard is finding innovative ideas to stand out from the crowd.

“We can sell tickets to Chester Zoo so our visitors can avoid the queues which makes a huge difference for families,” added Roger.

“Guests also receive 10% off at Cheshire Oaks and 10% at Jude Cissé’s Rouge Et Noir spa in Helsby.

“You can get away from it all but have all the benefits just down the road.”
