A MAN who was against domestic violence felt that he had let himself down after he assaulted his partner, a court heard.

Shaun Adrian Jones is alleged to have driven his car at his partner during a row but escaped a prison sentence.

He was placed on a two-year supervision order, under which he must follow an anger management course, ordered to carry out 80 hours unpaid work and pay £55 costs.

Magistrates heard how Jones, of Ewart Street in Saltney Ferry, had also grabbed her by the hair, pulled her to the ground and struck her.

At Flintshire Magistrates Court, Jones, 34, admitted assaulting Annette Dolman but said that while he had driven his car on to the pavement he had not aimed the vehicle at her.

The defendant told police that as they arrived home in the car he had jammed the brakes on as a joke.

She was a nervous passenger and became angry. She began to walk off and while he had driven the car up on to the kerb he was just having a laugh, he said.

Jones admitted common assault and resisting police.

Miss Dolman was in court supporting him and had forgiven him, explained defending solicitor Alan Bayliss. He also said that his client was familiar with domestic violence during his younger days, and as a consequence was very much against it, and felt that he had let himself down on this occasion.
