A YOUTH club is being created to give bored youngsters something to do and inform them of the dangers of drug abuse at the same time.

Cuddington residents Michael Leigh, 20, and his fiancee Katie Madeley, 19, have been out around the Wharton area of Winsford putting up leaflets advertising the Addictions Youth Club.

They have already had a lot of interest about the Christian club, which would provide information and advice on issues such as drug abuse, as well as providing much-needed entertainment.

It will be based at Wharton Youth Centre on Greville Drive and planned facilities include a video screen, smoke machines and disco lights.

Michael said: 'It is going to start on Friday, September 5. We have been out around Wharton putting leaflets up and we were approached by about 50 youths who said they would come.

'There is definitely a need for a new youth club in Wharton to give the youngsters something to do. It is all about getting them off the streets by providing them with entertainment and somewhere to go.

'It will be a Christian club and we also want to educate the youngsters about issues like the dangers of drug abuse.'

Michael and Katie both work as care assistants and are members of the Oasis Christian Ministry, based at the Dingle Centre. Now the couple are looking into applying for funding to ensure the club is a success.

Michael added: 'We both live in Cuddington, but I felt the call to come to Winsford and there is certainly a need.'
