COUNCILLORS have objected to plans for an underground pipeline to be built through Frodsham.

Frodsham Town Council fear it could damage the environment, including public footpaths, and cause disruption for residents near Marsh Lane, a potential access route for construction traffic.

Cllr Frank Pennington said: “We’ve got to agree to it; we can’t stop progress and I think farmers would welcome the compensation.”

Town and Vale Royal Borough Councillor Andrew Dawson claimed Frodsham may even benefit from the scheme.

He asked: “Is this pipeline a wonderful opportunity to use the backfill to create, for instance, some sort of cycleway from Frodsham to Helsby?”

Cllr Graham Bondi said: “We have applications for everything from incinerators to windfarms focused on our surrounding area and we have to object at the outset because if Frodsham is seen by developers as an easy target we will get more and more.”
